"So often you find that the students you're trying to inspire are the ones that end up inspiring you". -Sean Junkins
Facilitating Small Groups

Social Skills Groups: Designed to positively respond to students who could benefit from extra support with their behaviors.  Students will learn about appropriate behaviors through role-playing, games, and small group instruction.  Students will practice these skills and receive immediate feedback in the small group setting and then be encouraged to apply skills within the regular classroom setting, at home, and in the community.

Skills Groups: Designed to positively respond to students who could benefit from extra support within a specific area.  These areas may include, but are not limited to: organization, homework completion, friendship, anxiety, or anger. Students will be provided with lessons and support on the identified area through role-play, games, and small group instruction. Students will practice these skills and receive immediate feedback in the small group setting and then be encouraged to apply these skills within the regular classroom setting, at home, and within the community.

Meeting with Students 1:1

I can meet with your child to discuss a variety of topics, which may include: problems at school (academic or social), friendship concerns, changes at home, grief & loss, etc.

Leading Classroom Lessons

From time to time, I will visit Indian Valley classrooms to provide instruction on Positive Behavior expectations (Respectful, Responsible, Ready, Safe), character education, a specific need of that classroom, etc.

Participating in Academic & Behavior Intervention Meetings

I am an active member of our Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) team, as well as our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team.  This provides me with the opportunity to assist in the development of academic & behavioral interventions to best meet the needs of our students & help them succeed here at Indian Valley!

Consulting & collaborating with students, parents, teachers, administrators, & outside agencies

Parents, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies are all stakeholders in a child's education! Part of my job is to be a liaison between all of these stakeholders in order to ensure that a student is getting the best possible educational experience. I also do my best to connect students and families with local resources to help meet their needs.

*Regarding Confidentiality*

In counseling situations, confidentiality is maintained except:

  • In cases of suspected abuse or neglect

  • If a child poses a danger to self or others

  • If a child and/or parent/guardian gives permission to share information

Confidentiality is of the utmost importance. This means that anything you share with me is kept private. Information that I gather through meetings with students and parents/guardians will be shared only on a "need-to-know" basis. When information needs to be shared, I will assess who needs to know and what information he/she needs to know to best support students and their families.
